The headband
It is a piece of Arab dress worn by men in the Arabian Peninsula, the eastern coast of the Arabian Gulf, Ahwaz, Iraq, the Levant, Egypt, Libya and Algeria. It is part of men's folk clothing, and is usually made of goat wool. It is worn over the shemagh or ghutra. There is no scientific agreement on the date of the emergence of the aqal in its current form [3] , although the oldest written references to wearing the aqal appear to be from the north of the Arabian Peninsula in the early eighteenth century ( 1700 AD / 1100 AH ).
